The Mystery Box RedWideGamut to HDR10 LUTs are designed to work with RED's Image Processing Pipeline 2 (IPP2) by converting the color primaries from the RedWideGamutRGB into a grading space while maintaining the Log3G10.

There are twenty three LUTs in this pack:

  1. 5 x RedWideGamut RGB Log3G10 to Rec 2020 PQ HDR with Low, Standard, Medium, High, and Very High contrast

  2. 5 x Log3G10 to PQ HDR with Low, Standard, Medium, High, and Very High contrast

  3. 4 x RedWideGamutRGB to DCI-P3, P3 D65, Rec 709, and Rec. 2020 honoring Log3G10 transfer function

  4. 4 x RedWideGamutRGB to DCI-P3, P3 D65, Rec 709, and Rec. 2020 honoring Gamma 2.4 SDR transfer function

  5. MBOX PQ HDR to Log3G10

  6. MBOX Rec2020 PQ to RedWideGamutRGB Log3G10

  7. 3 x Rec 2020 to RedWideGamutRGB honoring Gamma 2.4, Log3G10, and PQ HDR

The MBOX RedWideGamutRGB Log3G10 to Rec 2020 PQ HDR LUTs are all-in-one transformations for moving from RedWideGamutRGB Log3G10 into Rec 2020 PQ HDR, while adding Mystery Box’s Gen2|HDR™ Color Science low, standard, medium, high, and very high contrast. The High Contrast and Very High Contrast match the IPP2 Medium and High Contrasts, respectively. Standard contrast matches the contrast added by SDR Gamma 2.4 systems.

While these five LUTs can be used independently, the 33x33x33 3D cubes required to handle both the color space transformation and the transfer function transformation reduces the resolution of the transfer function conversion.

The MBOX Log3G10 to PQ HDR LUTs are 1D LUTs for handling the transfer function change at a higher resolution than 33x33x33 cubes permit. They may be combined with the MBOX RedWideGamutRGB to Rec2020 LUTs in the Colorspace Conversion category, to match the all in one LUTs provided, or combined with the to DCI-P3, to P3 D65, and to Rec 709 LUTs to match your target working space.

When combining with the colorspace conversion LUTs, the colorspace conversion should come FIRST in the image pipeline, and the "Log3G10" variant of the colorspace transformation should be used.

The last category of LUTs are three LUTs provided to move from Rec 2020 PQ back into RedWideGamutRGB Log3G10. The combined LUT "MBOX Rec2020 PQ to RedWideGamutRGB Log3G10" transforms both the color space and the transfer function, the LUT "MBOX PQ HDR to Log3G10" transforms only the transfer function, and the LUT "MBOX Rec2020 to RedWideGamutRGB (Transfer Function)" adjusts the color primaries while respecting the Gamma 2.4, Log3G10, and PQ HDR transfer functions.

What’s Different from IPP2 LUTs

The Mystery Box LUTs use a direct conversion technique that differs in practice from the RED IPP2 LUTs. It applies no roll-off or compression to the highlights, and directly moves from RedWideGamutRGB Log3G10 into PQ HDR. This provides a comparable starting point for all camera systems, and not just the RED camera system.
